In this paper we present MultiADD, a combination of Multiagent and Design Support Systems technologies, that allow multiple designers to work in the same project simultaneously. Active Design Documents (ADD) has yielded promising results on the capture, retrieval and use of design rationale on various engineering domains. This research concerned only a single user in a single domain area. We expanded ADD’s model using multiagent technology to support work in collaborative design environments. Our discussion deals with the representation, identification, propagation and resolution of conflicts during the design process. Examples are drawn from our prototype system, developed for the domain of process plant design of off-shore oil platforms (ADDProc).
